FAFSA ON THE WEB INSTRUCTIONS

**New for 2017-2018: the 2017-2018 FAFSA is based on the 2015 IRS 1040**.

  Go to: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

  Click Start a New FAFSA

 

Click Enter your (the student's) FSA ID

  If you do not have an FSA User ID, click Create an FSA ID

o   Enter your email address and create a User ID and Password

  You can only have one User ID per email address. If you share email addresses with another individual who already created a User ID, you must make a new email address )

o   Enter your personal information and click next

o   If you have a PIN, enter it and click Verify, otherwise click Continue without PIN.

o   Enter the information

o   Create your security questions. (you cant have the same answer for 2 questions)

o   Review your information, read the certification, check the box that the information is correction and you agree to the terms and click continue.

o   Complete Email verification

o   If you had a PIN and entered it you can go back to the FAFSA, enter your User ID and password and Link to IRS

o   If you did not have a PIN you will have to wait until your information is verified before you can continue with your application.

  If you have an FSA User ID or you just created one, enter your User ID and Password and click Next

  Click Start a 2017-2018 FAFSA

  Create a Save Key and Click Next

  Click Next

  Complete the students information and click Next

  Review the information and click Next

  Complete the info

o   High school graduation level is Diploma unless you know otherwise

o   Degree or Certificate is :Certificate or Diploma of less than two years

o   Click No for First bachelors degree by July 1, 2017

o   The parents Education Level is not an important question- answer it to the best of your ability

  Click Next

 

Enter High School information and click Confirm Make sure that the name of your High School matches the name of the school on your High School Transcript or Diploma

o   If the high school does come up click the select before the right choice and click Next

o   If high school does not come up then just click Next

 

Enter Federal School Code for Associated Beth Rivkah - 011208 and click Search

 

Click the check box and click Add

  Click Next

  Put in Housing Status and click Next

  Answer all the dependency questions (the last one is were you homeless or were you self-supporting and at risk of being homeless?) and click Next

  Select I Will Provide Parental Information and click Next

  Fill in info and click Next

o   Make sure you enter the information exactly as it appears on the Social Security Card. Also make sure that all the Parent 1 information is from one parent and all the Parent 2 information is from the other parent.

o   College students include any child (not parents) who is attending a Title IV (Pell eligible) institution. You can use this link (http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/) to check if your other children are attending a Title IV eligible institution (Seminaries and Yeshivos in EY can not fall into this category.

  Select whether you (the parent) Completed Your 2015 Return, (Will File) or Will Not File

  If you completed your return, a few options will come up. If any of the first two apply (or you will not file) click Next and fill out the financial information

o  If you filed recently (as described in the last question) or you have not yet filed then save the application and finish it once you can answer No

  Enter which parent you are and your FSA User ID and click Link To The IRS (if you get a message that they were unable to provide your tax information then click Return to FAFSA and then Okay. Save the FAFSA and try again at a later date)

  If you dont have a FSA User ID, click link to Create a FSA User ID

o   Enter your email address and create a User ID and Password

o   Enter your personal information and click next

o   If you have a PIN, enter it and click Verify, otherwise click Continue without PIN.

Click Okay

  Put in the information from your tax return and submit

  Click the check box by Transfer My Tax Information into the FAFSA and click Transfer Now. it will bring you back to the FAFSA

o   It will give you a number to subdivide between the 2 parents- Please put in the information as accurately as possible. You can look at your W-2s for help.

o   A dislocated worker is someone who is unemployed, or under employed. This includes individuals who were never employed but would like to work and cant find a job.

  Add in any info that did not come in

o   Do not change the information if it says Transfer from the IRS to the right of the line (even if it is blank)

  Put in asset info and click Next

o   If your AGI is below 50,000 you may not be shown this question

  Enter Students Filing Status and click Next

  Enter Students Income Information and click Next

  Enter any other income information and saving information and click Next

  Enter the students PIN

o   If the student does not have a PIN, click Apply for PIN

o   Put in info and click Apply for PIN

o   Close PIN page and enter PIN into FAFSA

  Click Sign

  Click Agree by the Terms of Agreement- Student

  Enter whether the Father or Mother are signing

  If you did not apply for a PIN earlier you can do so now

  Enter PIN

  Click Sign

  Click Agree by the Terms of Agreement- Parent

  Click Submit FAFSA Now

  You should print the confirmation for your records

  To get back into your application if you saved it because your tax information was unavailable, then go to the link in step 1, click Logon, enter the information, click continue and enter the password. It should take you back to where you left off. If it does not then use the links on the top of the page to go the financial section.
